  • Photograhy

This class will focus on the basics and fundamentals of photography. Aperture, shutter speed, and ISO are the most important components to know about photography. What does aperture do? How does it effect the images and how should I use it? Shutter speed is so important in photography because without knowing which shutter speed to use it will be much more difficult to get those great, quality images. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using a fast shutter speed, and vice versa for a slow shutter speed? What considerations need to be taken into account when deciding this important setting. ISO in the simplest terms in the cameras sensor sensitivity to light. The higher the ISO, the more exposed an image will be. Higher ISO often means sacrificing image quality, so knowing the right time to use this is important. Being able to know how aperture, shutter speed, and ISO work together is mandatory for any successful photographer. This class will also focus on the basics of composition and different things to focus on while composing a shot. An evenly balanced image, the rule of thirds, use of lines, and highlight/shadows are all tools that photographers use to create images. Photography 101 will get the student to start thinking like a photographer and learning the necessary tools and setting to achieve that specific shot that they desire.

  • Woodworking

During this seven-week class my goal is to complete at least two projects your child can bring home.   If time permits, we will work on and complete a third project.  Each week we will have devoted time to learn facts about working with wood and apply what we’ve learned while doing projects.  The students will learn a few basic skills needed when working with wood and explore fun facts about things a wood worker learn as they research new projects.  During this woodworking class your child will learn how to use of various hand tools and tool safety.  Power tools will not be leveraged during this class, the exception to this rule may be the use of a drill.  Due to the limited access to tools and the hands-on nature of the course, I am limiting each class to six students.  Parent volunteers are welcome and appreciated.

Disclaimer:  This class will involve the use of hammers, nails and various other tools.  Every effort will be taken to ensure your child’s safety.  Parents are encouraged to participate with their child for this class, but it is not required.
